Paternity and Legitimation
Parents who have not married, whether engaged in a domestic partnership or not, generally need to establish a legal framework for the care of their child. A mother may engage a lawyer to establish paternity of her child and receive monthly support from the father through a paternity suit. A father may hire an attorney to establish his paternity of the child and his desire to be the legal father of his child with the right to custody and visitation through a legitimation suit.
In either type of action, Carol Powell will assist the client to obtain those benefits of being a parent, i.e., support, custody and visitation, desired by the client. As in other custody matters, the process of mediation may be utilized to assist the parents in establishing what is best for their child and for them.
